1962-1967 study for a degree in meteorology in Kiel, Germany 1973 PhD in Kiel 1967-1975 Scientist at the Institut für Meereskunde in Kiel, Germany 1976-1991 Senior scientist at the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecast (ECMWF) in Reading, England (head of diagnostic section). 1991-2000 Senior scientist at Max-Planck-Institut für Meteorologie in Hamburg, Germany 2000 retired 2000-now some contracts with Max-Planck-Institut für Meteorologie to continue working on different projects. Mostly working on the Caspian Sea.
