Project Manager of CRIPTIC for Azerbaijan and also Coordinator of CASPISNET Dr. Elnur Safarov on 22-th of March 2023, during the round table discussion 'Monitoring of marine debris and microplastics: Baltic region – CIS countries' session, has presented with co-authors 'Cleaning riverine plastic from a transboundary inflow to the Caspian – CRIPTIC’ project in online form. This event was organised within the annual “Baltic Sea -2023” Forum that was held in Saint-Petersburg between the dates 21-22 March 2023.
Cleaning Riverine Plastic from a Transboundary Inflow to the Caspian (CRIPTIC) project is funded by the Norwegian Retailers' Environmental Fund (Handelens Miljøfund).
The main objective of CRIPTIC is to build capacity in the Caspian region to reduce plastic litter to the Caspian Sea. The project is organised in three work packages, called:
1) Riverbank cleaning and classification of plastic pollution from the Kura River;
2) Mapping for cleaning;
3) Community engagement.

The project is led by Akvaplan-niva and partners are: the Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA), SALT, TerraNor;
